Making delicious, fluffy pancakes
from scratch is simple and only requires a few basic ingredients you likely
already have in your kitchen. Here is a classic recipe to get you started.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 ¼ cups milk
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Prepare the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking
powder, sugar, and salt.
- Prepare the wet ingredients: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk,
melted butter, and egg until well combined.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.
Stir until the mixture is just combined. The batter should have some
lumps; do not overmix, as this can result in tough pancakes.
- Heat the pan:
Heat a lightly oiled or buttered griddle or non-stick frying pan over
medium-high heat.
- Cook the pancakes:
Pour or scoop about ¼ cup of batter onto the hot pan for each pancake.
Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface and the edges
look dry.
- Flip and finish:
Carefully flip the pancakes with a spatula and cook for another 1-2
minutes, or until the other side is golden brown.
- Serve:
Serve the pancakes hot with your favorite toppings like butter, maple
syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
